Meet Martin Lehman – The Man Behind the Coconut Telegraph
Martin “Marty” Lehman is a storyteller and creative force who helped shape Jimmy Buffett’s Key West–based newsletter, The Coconut Telegraph, from a modest publication into an island institution. He guided the expansion of Margaritaville’s mail-order business and helped bring the brand’s laid-back lifestyle to life through words, wit, and island spirit. Under his direction, The Coconut Telegraph became a cultural touchstone — equal parts lore, laughter, and island personality.
His wife, Sharon Lehman, played an integral role as manager of the Key West Margaritaville Store for decades, making the pair true pillars of the culture, commerce, and legend of the Keys. Together, they’ve woven business, art, myth, and memory into the vibrant tapestry of Conch Republic life.
