Meet Michael Marrero – Bridging Cuban Roots and Key West Stories

Michael Marrero is a Cuban-American artist, filmmaker, playwright, and visual storyteller born and raised in Key West.
His award-winning short films — including Buzzcut and Riley Was Here — have screened at over 100 festivals worldwide.
He is the author of several plays, such as Locura, which participated in a historical theatrical exchange between Cuba and the U.S.
His photographic work, including the series Orisha: The Lost Saints, bridges Key West’s Santería heritage, Cuban culture, and the island’s evolving identity.
Marrero also leads in arts management: he is currently executive director at Williams Hall (Key West), curating programming that fosters community, culture, and cross-disciplinary expression
